Worm Gear Speed Reducer Worm gear units consist of a bronze gear meshed with a steel worm. To get higher ratios these may be combined with another set of worm gears or helical gears. Worm gear units are well suited for applications calling for high ratio or high torque requirements in a small space. A single reduction worm gear may have a ratio as high as 100-1.
